Tom Cleverley: Manchester United great Paul Scholes still inspires us England ... - Metro

Scholes, 38, called time on his international career after Euro 2004, tired of being shunted onto the left wing by Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Yet Scholes' influence remains strong, with seven Manchester United players in Roy Hodgson's squad for tomorrow's vital World Cup clash with Montenegro.

'It is more watch and learn with Scholesy rather than speaking to him,' Cleverley said. 'He is one of the best in the world at keeping the ball – and has been for many years.

'A big part of Scholesy's game is hurting teams as well. You need that in your game at this level. He is a great person and a great example for me to have around.'
