Newcastle United have a great chance to write another exciting chapter in their history against Benfica tonight, says Rob Lee
The European nights used to be my favourites as a player and you want more and more of them once you get the taste for it.
We know that elimination will result in a long wait for the next one – so really winning the competition is the only way to keep them with us.
From the moment I played in the Royal Antwerp game in 1994 to when I left Newcastle in 2002 they were my favourite occasions.
The players have to grasp what is in front of them and the key here tonight is to keep the dream alive for the second leg.
At this stage you can see what is on the horizon and a place in the Amsterdam final would be a great achievement for Newcastle. It is a game that I would be flying out to. I rarely go to Newcastle games because I watch my two sons a lot these days.
It would be a great achievement but seeing us in that final in Holland would be great for the fans. That alone is something worth fighting for as far as these players are concerned.
