It is difficult to remember a UFC battle card that experienced more in-fight injuries than UFC 159. The difficulties began on the card, where Ovince St. Preux poked Gian Villante in the attention. Without offering Villante a moment to recoup, Kevin Mulhall strangely called an instantaneous stop to the battle, and St. Preux walked away with a technical-decision victory. In the ultimate combat of the FX-televised prelims, Yancy Medeiros hurt a hand and was rendered not able to continue fighting. As a result, Rustam Khabilov was awarded a technical-knockout win. The co-main event very nearly made it the exact distance without any issues, but Alan Belcher found a hand in the eye with 29 seconds remaining in the attack, and that generated another complex decision, which went in Michael Bisping's favor. While the major function was completed with no injury distractions, Jon Jones did suffer a nasty toe injury through the fight and might now be placed on the ledge for an important timeframe to recoup.
