Pulis blocks goal-shy Crouch - ESPN.co.uk

Tony Pulis has guarded Peter Crouch over his lack of influence in 2013 in front of Stoke City's vital relegation expertise with Aston Villa at the Britannia Stadium. Crouch has suffered an unpleasant work of late, with just one goal in his last 25 looks for the club as Stoke's insufficient firepower has seen them taken in to the battle for Premier League success. The former England striker almost left the Britannia in the January transfer window, but a likely move to Queens Park Rangers flattened and frustrated Stoke fans are demanding Pulis select Kenwyne Jones forward of Crouch for the visit of third-bottom Villa. Despite Stoke being the cheapest scorers in the Premier League, Jones hit three objectives in four starts in December, but lost his position the moment Crouch came back from a facial injury suffered against Newcastle United. Crouch appears certain to begin against Villa and Pulis said: "You select a team you think is going to do well and I thought Peter joined the play wonderfully for people at Everton. "Scoring goals is one of the areas we've surely got to look at. I have excellent regard for Peter. He is a total dream player to work well with. Each day in teaching his enthusiasm is infectious. He trains with a look on his face." Pulis has caused it to be clear all his players need certainly to lead on the absence of objectives and has tried to ease the pressure on his team as they plan what could possibly be one of their most significant matches of the season. Victory might take Stoke seven things clear of Villa and the relegation zone - but defeat can leave a one-point advantage within the bottom three them sitting on as little. "People say this is the emergency game, but we've seven activities left to obtain six points to reach 40. I'm working my clothes off to be sure the group do not experience any pressure," said Pulis. "We are at home and the people understand that if they place in a hard-working move, then they'll have the support of 25,000 people. There can be negativity out there in the media, on the television and on radio stations, but we've to cope with that. "It is part of the job and certainly for the people who have to have the confidence to go out there on the message and perform."
