The Houston Kings defeated the San Jose Sharks 2-0 Tues at Staples Center, to take a 1-0 series lead within the battle for California. It was eventually the Sharks' first losing 2013 NHL playoffs plus the Kings' fifth consecutive win.
After both teams had a few strong offensive zone possessions, it appeared as the first period would terminate scoreless. However, Slava Voynov put the Kings to the board with just under 15 seconds to look. He walked in with the blue line and procured a slap shot of which beat Antti Niemi high, finding the top left corner of the goal.
Midway through the second Voynov took a wrist shot within the point which was deflected property by Mike Richards. Again, getting bodies in front of Niemi became the difference.
The Sharks plonked everything on net, outshooting the Kings 16-4 with the third period and 35-20 over-all. The 27-year-old netminder was constantly in place and rarely allowed a giant rebound. It seems Quick provides returned to playing at the level he did around last year's postseason.
