Thoughts on Federer vs Nadal final @ 2013 Rome Masters 1000.

Last five matches: 3 - 2 Nadal. Of the five matches, one was on clay rest on hard courts. Federer won 2011 WTF and 2012 Indian Wells.

Historically, Federer has not produced his best if he hasn't had a decent ramped up resistance. Conversely, Nadal has needed many such matches. If that dynamic stays true to it's history, could we be looking at a blow out?

It seems Federer needed that Nishikori defeat to shock his psyche into line. Even though he hasn't faced a bona fide player, he has maintained a consistent theme through out specially with respect to unforced errors. Nadal has fared bad in that department in each of his matches here.

Federer is three months removed from his 32nd birthday and Nadal is month away from his 27th. Even if you agree that the two numbers, in real life, cancel each other thereby producing a level playing field at least in this department, there are just way too many factors that are willing to more than compensate for that parity to, on paper, water and wind, skew the post in Nadal's favor. Duh!!!!!
