FC Barcelona and Real Madrid to play a friendly game in the holy ...

According to the Spanish sports newspaper Marca, Spain's emblematic teams, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are set to play a friendly game in Saudi Arabia's Mecca city, the holy city of Islam, which hosts the Kaaba.

This game, whose date has not been set yet, will part of the opening ceremony of the high speed train, which will link Mecca to the city of Medina, which host the grave of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).

The construction of this high speed train, dubbed as Desert AVE or the Pilgrims' AVE, was awarded to a consortium of 12 Spanish companies. The opening of this 450-km line is expected for 2016.

"Although there is no official agreement yet, the event's promoters take it for granted that the game will go ahead, Marca said.

"The presence of these two giants of Spanish football isn't only justified by its obvious sporting appeal," it added.
